Our Story

Our story begins in 1982, when Blackstone’s opened on Charles Street as a home goods and gift store. Around the same time, KitchenArts opened on Newbury Street, establishing a separate destination focused on cookware and kitchenware—later evolving into KitchenWares by Blackstones.

Over the years, these two independent stores grew and evolved, eventually coming together to form the comprehensive retail experience we offer today.

• 1982 – Blackstone’s opens at 46 Charles Street in Beacon Hill and KitchenArts opens at 161 Newbury Street in Back Bay
• 2006 – Jennifer and Jim Hill together with Mark Duffield purchase Blackstone’s and expand the assortment
• 2010 – Jennifer and Jim launch KitchenWares by Blackstones at 215 Newbury Street replacing the former KitchenArts
• 2013 – Expansion into tabletop and home décor retail concepts with Reflections at 223 Newbury Street (later renamed Blackstone’s of Back Bay)
• 2016 – Blackstone’s of Back Bay closes with its assortment being dispersed between the two stores
• 2020 – KitchenWares and Blackstone’s are consolidated into one Beacon Hill location with a unified store name changed to Blackstone’s
• 2021 – Blackstone’s moves to a larger storefront at 40 Charles Street

Today, Blackstone’s serves a diverse mix of customers—from local residents and home entertainers to professional chefs, caterers, and interior designers, as well as visitors from across the country and around the world—shopping our kitchen, home, and gift collections for everything from everyday essentials to special occasions, including tabletop pieces, party supplies, one of the most extensive kitchen knife selections in New England, and distinctive Boston keepsakes.

Our Founders

Blackstone’s is a reflection of owners Jennifer and Jim Hill, whose shared passion for cooking and entertaining began over 25 years ago when they took a cooking class in France. That passion continues to shape the store today, from the products we carry to the way we care for our customers.

Jennifer, a native of Ohio with ancestry tracing back to Mayflower Pilgrim John Howland, brings a strong appreciation for tradition and history to Blackstone’s, adding a meaningful connection to Boston’s rich heritage.
