Having grown up in the Boston area, Janice Hayes-Cha always dreamed of doing the Boston Marathon. She trained for it in 2007 to get back on her feet after breast cancer, but was waylaid by a second bout of colon cancer. In 2014, she was inspired by the survivors of the bombing and trained for a year to run. How unforgettable rounding the corner onto Boylston Street, and seeing how far away the finish line was! Look for some famous marathon runners in the crowd: Joan Benoit, Shalane Flanagan, Bill Hunt, Ibriham Hussein, Meb Keflezighi, Nina Kuscsik (with seven women who first ran officially in 1972) Sharon Rahn, Fatuma Roba, Bill Rodgers, Sharon Rahn, and Kathy Switzer (in 1967 she competed with number 261 even though it was against the rules). And the artist is in there too.
After having lived on Beacon Hill for over a decade, it only makes sense that Janice Hayes-Cha and her art find a home here at Blackstone’s of Beacon Hill.
